30 Of The Most Memorable Pics From The 2018 International Landscape Photographer Of The Year Contest

The fifth annual Landscape Photographer of the Year competition winners have been announced and they are an absolute treat to the eye.

Selected from a field of nearly 3000 entries taken by 863 photographers, the judges had the difficult task of narrowing them down to eventual winners. The overall photographer of the year, based on a folio submission of at least 4 images, was Adam Gibbs, from Canada.

Adam says he was originally inspired by a nature photography book written by John Shaw in the 1980s.

“Since I’m still a bit old school from the film days, I tend to try and capture the majority of my images in a single frame. I don’t have strong views on image manipulation, other than I find more joy in capturing great light and composition on site, rather than creating something that didn’t exist when I took the photo. My love of nature and the outdoors is much stronger than my desire to make images, so for me, pictures taken at the moment have far more integrity and personal meaning than those made later in a computer.

Winner of the prize for Landscape Photograph of the Year, based on a single image, is Paul Marcellini, from the USA. Specializing in Florida scenery, Paul’s artistic shot of tree trunks creating an optical illusion in a swamp was simply stunning in its composition. “I seem to love every place I spend some time in, but it is the swamps of Florida that will always be my favorite habitat to explore,” Paul said. “I enjoy the challenge of trying to organize the chaos. It is also a pretty strong bet that I will be the only one out there and the solitude is great!”
